Customer Support

AI customer support answers your customers' common questions instantly, by phone, chat and email, at any hour, from a knowledge base built from your own FAQs and policies. What it can't answer, it never guesses at: it escalates to your team with the full conversation attached, so nobody has to explain their problem twice.

What is AI customer support?

AI customer support is an AI voice agent, chat agent or email automation that resolves routine customer questions from your knowledge base and routes everything else to the right person. It answers instantly, logs what it can't resolve rather than guessing, and hands complex cases to your team with a summary, so your people spend their time on the problems that need them.

Why do support teams drown in repeat questions?

Support teams drown because most calls and emails ask the same handful of questions. Your team answers them again and again while complex issues wait in the queue. Customers are put on hold, calls go unanswered after hours, and when a case finally reaches the right person, the customer has to explain everything from scratch.

  1. The same questions all day

Opening hours, order status, how to reset a password: answered by hand, every time.
  2. Complex issues wait

The cases that need a person sit behind the ones that didn't.
  3. Customers explain twice

Escalations arrive with no context, so the conversation starts again.

How does an AI voice agent handle support calls?

An AI voice agent answers every call to your support line instantly, 24/7. It resolves common queries from a knowledge base built from your FAQs, product documentation and policies, logs anything outside its scope rather than guessing, and escalates complex issues to a person with a full call summary, so your staff pick up with the complete picture.

With an AI voice agent (inbound)

An inbound call to your support line

  1. Answer instantly

    Every call, straight away, 24/7.
  2. Resolve from your knowledge base

    FAQs, product documentation and policies.
  3. Log what it can't resolve

Never guessed at; it knows what it mustn't discuss or commit to.
  4. Escalate with context

A full call summary goes to a person.

How does a chat agent answer and triage questions?

An AI chat agent replies to every message instantly on your website, WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger or Instagram, in the customer's language where it's built multilingual. It answers from your knowledge base, can tailor answers to the customer's own orders or bookings when connected to your CRM, triages minor and serious issues, and raises a ticket with the full conversation when a person is needed.

With an AI chat agent

A customer opens your website chat, or messages you on Telegram, WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram

  1. Reply instantly

Including at peak times when your team would be overwhelmed.
  2. Resolve from your knowledge base

Tailored to the customer's own orders, bookings or enquiries where your CRM is connected.
  3. Triage the rest

Minor issues get step-by-step instructions; serious ones go straight to a person.
  4. Escalate with context

A ticket or instant alert with the full conversation attached.

For a Spanish study-abroad agency, the chat agent asks one question first: is this a current student or someone looking to enrol? Current students' issues become support tickets labelled CURRENT CLIENT, QUESTION or REQUEST, and the agent tells them the team will reply by email within 24–48 hours. It never guesses prices, dates or policies.

How do automations handle support emails?

Automations handle support emails by classifying each request with AI, such as enquiry, complaint, support request or urgent, replying to the standard ones from your templates and knowledge base, and routing the rest to the right person or tool with a summary attached. Urgent emails rise to the top, and follow-up reminders are set automatically.

With AI automations

A support request by email or web form

  1. Classify

AI categorises each request in your CRM.
  2. Resolve the standard ones

An automatic reply from your templates and knowledge base, or a real-time status update.
  3. Route the rest

To the right department or person, with a summary.
  4. Prioritise the inbox

Urgent ones first, with follow-up reminders.

Does it get better over time?

Yes. Every conversation is saved with a transcript and summary, and a dashboard tracks which questions were answered automatically and which reached a person. Questions that keep reaching your team are added to the knowledge base, so the share answered automatically grows month by month, and you can see which gaps to fix on your website and FAQs.

Which systems deliver it?

Customer support is delivered by an inbound AI voice agent for your support line, an AI chat agent for website and messaging channels, and AI automations for email and form requests. Customer support is available on every voice and chat package, including as the single use case in the Core package. Your team can also learn to build one.

Where is it used?

AI customer support suits any business with a high volume of repetitive questions: e-commerce, SaaS and subscriptions, education, hospitality, automotive service departments and public services. Each sector names it differently: CX or "where is my order?" in e-commerce, admissions queries in education, guest messaging in hospitality and passenger information in transport.

Same job, their words

CX without the queue. A shopper asks about returns at midnight and gets the policy straight away; a damaged delivery becomes a ticket for the CX team with the order and the conversation attached.

Can your team build a support agent themselves?

Yes, with training. In a recorded workshop, we built a support chat agent live in Voiceflow for a sample company using only its public website: a knowledge base written from the site, a prompt with an escalation protocol, and a ticket table in Airtable that the agent fills in. This was a training demo, not a client deployment.

  1. Knowledge base from the website

Read by an AI browser and imported into Voiceflow.
  2. The prompt

Identity, tone, responsibilities and an escalation protocol.
  3. An escalation tool

Tickets created in Airtable through its API.
  4. Tested end to end

A pricing question raised a ticket for sales.

What should you know before you start?

An AI support agent is only as good as its knowledge base. It answers from your FAQs, documentation and policies, and logs anything outside them rather than guessing. It doesn't give legal, medical or financial advice unless that's explicitly scoped. Chat agents are set up with GDPR in mind, and whether the agent tells customers it's an AI is your choice.

  • Knowledge base first. Gaps show up quickly in the logged questions.
  • Never guesses. Unanswered questions become tickets, not invented answers.
  • Voice agents never claim to be human when asked.

Frequently asked questions

Questions

Answer

What happens when the AI doesn't know the answer?

It says so and escalates. An AI support agent answers only from your knowledge base and connected tools. When a question falls outside them, it logs it, raises a ticket or alerts your team with the full conversation, and tells the customer when they'll hear back. It never invents an answer, a price or a policy.
