SEO, AEO & GEO

Get found wherever your customers look: in Google's results and map pack, in the direct answers search engines show, and in the recommendations ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude give. We audit every site and location you run, turn the findings into a phased roadmap, implement it location by location, and track the results each month.

What's the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?

SEO (search engine optimisation) gets your pages ranked in search results and the local map pack. AEO (answer engine optimisation) shapes your content so search engines can show it as a direct answer. GEO (generative engine optimisation) gets AI assistants such as ChatGPT to know about you, trust you and recommend you.

Layer · What it means · Where you show up
LayerWhat it meansWhere you show up
SEO (search engine optimisation)A site search engines can crawl, understand and rank, with a page for every city and service people search for, plus a strong local presenceGoogle and Bing results, the local map pack, Google Business Profile
AEO (answer engine optimisation)Content written and marked up so it can be lifted as a direct answerFeatured snippets, "People also ask", voice answers, Google's AI Overviews
GEO (generative engine optimisation)Being a business AI assistants know about, trust and citeChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and other assistants

The three layers share most of their foundations: clear site structure, structured data, genuine reviews, the same business details everywhere and content with real, sourced facts. That's why we plan and build them together, as one programme rather than three projects.

What does the audit cover?

The audit reviews every site and location you run on the same eight dimensions, from technical SEO to AI visibility, and scores each site out of 100 with a plain verdict. Anything we can't verify from outside, such as server settings or Search Console data, is listed with how to check it rather than guessed.

  • Technical SEO: crawlability and indexation, robots.txt and sitemaps, heading structure, broken and placeholder links, performance and mobile, analytics and Search Console
  • On-page: titles, meta descriptions and headings, with rewrites written for each site
  • Content and keyword gaps: what people search for in your market, and the pages you'd need to rank for it
  • Architecture: whether the site can rank at all, and the doorway-page risk when sister sites share copy
  • Local SEO: Google Business Profiles, consistent name, address and phone, citations and reviews
  • E-E-A-T, trust and compliance: placeholder content, unverifiable claims, legal disclaimers, and the genuine strengths worth building on
  • Structured data: the schema each page type needs, with ready-to-use examples
  • Answer and AI visibility: whether you appear in direct answers, and whether AI assistants mention you, measured on a fixed set of prompts

What's in the growth roadmap?

The growth roadmap turns every finding into a numbered action with an effort estimate, an owner and an expected impact, grouped into five phases over 12 months, from emergency fixes in week 1 to compounding work in months 7–12. You also get a same-day fix checklist your team can start on straight away.

Phase · Typical timing · What it covers
PhaseTypical timingWhat it covers
0. Emergency fixesWeek 1Trust and compliance problems that are cheap to fix and costly to leave
1. FoundationsWeeks 1–4Analytics, Search Console, sitemaps, schema, metadata, Google Business Profiles, first citations, review generation, an AI visibility baseline
2. Content and architectureWeeks 5–12City pages, service pages, hubs, an FAQ page, about and reviews pages, a better enquiry form
3. AuthorityMonths 4–6Calculators, case studies, aggregator and listicle outreach, a blog, comparison pages, /llms.txt
4. CompoundingMonths 7–12Wider coverage, review velocity, content refreshes, re-audits and monthly AI visibility tracking

How is the roadmap implemented?

The roadmap is implemented one location at a time, starting with a pilot. The whole plan for that location goes into one markdown file, an AI coding agent with access to your site works through it phase by phase, and we review every phase before the next one starts. Tasks only a person can do are flagged to your team.

  1. One plan per location

The plan sets the scope, names the one site that may be changed, and lists every task with an ID, a type (agent, human or both), an effort estimate, what blocks it, step-by-step instructions and testable acceptance criteria.
  2. The agent works phase by phase

An AI coding agent with access to your site and hosting works through the plan in order, on a separate branch for each phase.
  3. Review between phases

After each phase the agent reports against the acceptance criteria. We review the report and the live pages before sending the next prompt. Nothing moves on until the phase passes.
  4. Human tasks run alongside

When the agent needs something only a person can supply, it marks the task blocked, asks, and moves on to the next one.
  5. Reuse the patterns

Page templates, schema, URL structure and content formats from the pilot are documented as they're built, so the next location starts from a proven pattern.

What gets built?

For SEO we build genuinely local city and service pages, measurement and local profiles. For AEO we build answer-first content, FAQ sections and validated schema. For GEO we build a fixed set of 10–20 prompts scored out of 100, a consistent business entity across the web, a /llms.txt file and a check that AI crawlers aren't blocked.

  • City and service pages with real local substance: each city page needs at least three facts true only of that city, and stays well clear of copy shared with sister sites
  • Service-area hubs, breadcrumbs and internal links between related pages
  • Analytics, conversion tracking, Search Console, sitemaps and clean metadata
  • Google Business Profiles, citations with identical name, address and phone everywhere, and review requests to every genuine customer
  • City and service pages that can mirror your Google Ads campaigns, so paid and organic search support each other

What won't we do?

We won't invent anything. No fabricated testimonials, reviews, ratings, addresses, opening hours, legal deadlines or market data, no doorway pages made by swapping place names, no review markup without real reviews and no fake forum posts. If the coding agent needs a fact it doesn't have, it stops and asks.

What the agent checks

  • Overlap with sister pages
  • Sources for legal facts
  • Scope of the plan
  • Blocked human tasks
Guardrails

Fixed rules in every location plan.

  • Nothing invented. If a fact is needed and missing, the agent stops and asks.
  • No doorway pages. Every page is checked against its sister pages for overlap.
  • Facts are sourced. Legal and market facts are checked against a primary source, cited on the page and reviewed by a person.
  • No review markup without real reviews. Rating schema is added only once genuine, verifiable reviews exist.
  • Legal wording stays. Consent, privacy and disclaimer text is never removed without your sign-off.
  • No astroturfing. No fake reviews and no undisclosed forum posts.
  • Scope is enforced. Anything outside the named site is flagged, not touched.

Which way of working fits?

There are three ways to work with us on search. Audit and Roadmap tells you why your sites don't bring in leads and what to fix first. Location Rollout turns the roadmap into pages, profiles and presence. Ongoing Growth keeps rankings, answers and AI mentions growing. Each is scoped on a free discovery call first.

If you already use an AI coding agent with access to your site, the location plans are written for it.

Search and AI visibility is one of the marketing jobs in AI for Growth. For estate agents, investors and cash home buyers running a site per state, see AI for real estate agents.

How long does it take, and what are the limits?

Search takes months, not weeks. Quick fixes go live in the first week and new pages are usually indexed within weeks, but rankings, map pack positions and AI mentions build over months. That's why every roadmap sets milestones at 90 days, 6 months and 12 months, measured against a baseline taken at the audit.

Known limitations

  • It takes time. Rankings, map pack positions and AI mentions build over months.
  • Some work only you can do. Profile verification, real photos, real reviews and legal sign-off depend on your team.
  • Answers vary. AI assistants give different answers on different days, so we track a fixed prompt set and look at the trend.
  • Outside checks have limits. Without access, some items can only be checked from outside. We say which, and how to verify them.

What do we need from you?

To run an SEO, AEO and GEO programme we need access to your sites' code or hosting, Search Console and analytics, a verifiable address for each location, real material such as photos and genuine reviews, legal sign-off on pages that state rules or deadlines, and one contact who can answer the human-only questions quickly.

  • Access to your sites' code or hosting, Search Console and analytics, or an AI coding agent that already has it
  • A verifiable address per location, for Google Business Profiles and local schema
  • Real material: photos, team bios, customer stories and genuine reviews
  • Legal sign-off on any page that states deadlines, rules or rights
  • One point of contact who can answer the human-only questions quickly

Is it a fit?

SEO, AEO and GEO work is a great fit if you run several locations, brand sites or service areas, your site looks good but brings in few enquiries from search, and your customers increasingly ask AI assistants who to use. It isn't a fit if you want results in weeks, or want fake reviews or mass-produced location pages.

A great fit if you have:

  • Several locations, brand sites or service areas
  • A website that looks good but brings in few enquiries from search
  • Little or no presence on Google Business Profile, review sites or directories
  • Customers who check whether you're legitimate before they call
  • A market where customers increasingly ask AI assistants for recommendations

Not the right fit if:

  • You want results in weeks. Search takes months to move.
  • You want fake reviews, invented data or mass-produced location pages
  • You can't supply an address, real photos or real reviews for the locations you want to rank in
