Lead Qualification

AI lead qualification asks every lead the same right questions, scores them against your criteria and hands your sales team only the people worth their time. It runs on a phone call, in a website chat, in Instagram DMs or from form answers, and writes a score, summary and next step to your CRM for every lead.

What is AI lead qualification?

AI lead qualification is an AI agent or automation asking each lead your qualifying questions, such as fit, budget, timing and intent, then scoring and routing them. Every lead gets the same questions in the same order, and your team gets a score, a summary and a recommended next step instead of a name to chase.

It isn't a filter that throws leads away. A lead who wants the wrong product can be pointed to a better-fitting one, and a lead who isn't ready goes into nurture rather than the bin. What changes is that your salespeople stop spending their best hours on the conversations that were never going to close.

Why does manual qualification waste sales time?

Manual qualification wastes sales time because it's repetitive and inconsistent. Salespeople lose hours on calls with people who were never going to buy: wrong budget, wrong product, wrong timing. The questions depend on whoever answers, and the best leads wait in the queue while the team works through the rest.

  1. The same questions, all day

Every new lead needs the same first five minutes of questions, and that's the part of the job salespeople like least.
  2. Different people, different answers

One person asks about budget, another forgets. Two leads with the same profile get treated differently, and nobody can compare them.
  3. The best leads wait

Without a score, the hottest lead of the day sits in the same list as everyone else.

How does an AI voice agent qualify a lead?

An AI voice agent qualifies a lead in a short, structured phone conversation, either calling a new lead within 2 minutes of a form submission or answering a prospect who calls you. It moves through five phases, from opening to closing, and ends by booking a callback with the right person or logging a scored lead in your CRM.

With an AI voice agent (inbound and outbound)

A new form submission (outbound) or a call to your number (inbound)

  1. Opening

Establishes who it is and why it's calling. Warm and non-salesy: it introduces itself as customer relations, not sales.
  2. Verification

Confirms the lead's name, the product they chose and their contact details.
  3. Level and fit

Checks the product matches the lead's profile. It's non-judgemental, flags mismatches and gently suggests better-fitting alternatives.
  4. Budget and commitment

Gauges financial readiness and intent with open questions, and never pressures.
  5. Closing

Agrees the next step: a booking, a follow-up, or a polite close if they're not a fit.

How is each lead scored?

Each answered call is scored out of 100 across five areas: call completion, product fit, budget, expressed intent and high-value signals. The score and its band are written to your CRM straight away, so your team knows who to call first. The criteria and thresholds are tailored to what a qualified lead looks like for your team.

Score · Band · What your team does
ScoreBandWhat your team does
80–100HotPriority call within 2 hours
50–79WarmFollow up within 24 hours and nurture towards booking
20–49ColdAdd to an email nurture sequence
0–19DisqualifiedNo follow-up; the reason is logged and the lead archived

Some of our builds use a simpler 1–10 score. A study-abroad agency's chat agent and a sports-education agency's voice agent both score every lead from 1 to 10. The scale matters less than scoring every lead the same way.

How do chat agents and automations qualify leads?

An AI chat agent qualifies leads in a text conversation on your website or in WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger or Instagram, one question at a time. AI automations qualify leads who arrive through forms and social flows by scoring their answers against your criteria. Both route hot leads to the right person at once and log everything in your CRM.

With an AI chat agent

A visitor opens your website chat, or messages you on Telegram, WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram

  1. Ask the qualifying questions

One message at a time, with buttons for fixed choices like budget range or timeline.
  2. Answer their questions too

About your services, your process, or pricing if you want it discussed, so they don't drop off.
  3. Score the lead

Using the same approach as a call, adapted to what can be learned in a chat.
  4. Route and book

Hot leads go to the right person with the full conversation and can book a call on the spot.

For an online fitness coaching business, a chat agent qualifies leads in Instagram DMs in the founder's own voice. It works through goal, current position, approach, obstacle and readiness, skips anything the lead has already said, and asks for a phone number only once they're interested. Then it writes a summary with a readiness rating of high, medium or low for the coach who calls them.

With AI automations

A form submission, a chat agent hand-off or a social DM flow

  1. Capture

Answers are collected in a structured format, including budget, needs, timeline and goals.
  2. Score and segment

An AI step scores each lead against your criteria and tags it by need, product interest and priority.
  3. Route

Hot leads go to the right salesperson with an instant alert; warm leads get a booking link or a follow-up sequence; cold leads go into nurture.
  4. Log

The score, tags and a short summary are written to your CRM.

Which systems deliver it?

Lead qualification is delivered by AI voice agents for calls in both directions, AI chat agents for website and messaging conversations, and AI automations for forms and social media flows. All three can share the same scoring model, so a lead from Instagram and a lead from your phone line are judged the same way.

Where is it used?

Lead qualification fits any business where time spent on unqualified leads is a real cost, especially with high lead volumes and a small sales team. Each industry calls it something different: applicant qualification in real estate, programme fit in education, candidate screening in recruitment and an eligibility check in Sharia-compliant finance.

Same job, their words

Applicant qualification on every enquiry: budget, finance in place or proof of funds, chain position and moving timeline. Negotiators see a score and call the buyers who can actually proceed first.

What should you know before you start?

AI lead qualification works best when you can describe a qualified lead clearly. We agree the questions, criteria and score thresholds with you before the build, and the agent sticks to them. It doesn't make the sale, quote prices unless you want it to, or judge anything outside the criteria you've set.

  • The criteria are yours. The model above is a starting point. Thresholds and questions are set for your team and can be changed later.
  • Mismatches aren't lost. A lead who wants the wrong product is pointed to a better fit, not disqualified.
  • People still decide. The score tells your team who to call first. Your salespeople make the judgement on the call.
  • Budget is handled with care. The agent only presses on budget when the gap matters, and always offers alternatives rather than pressure.

Questions

Answer

What questions does an AI qualification call ask?

An AI qualification call asks the questions your best salesperson would ask in the first five minutes: confirmation of the lead's details and the product they chose, whether it fits their level or situation, their budget and commitment, and their timing. The exact questions are written with you, asked one at a time, and the agent skips anything the lead has already answered.
